Garden Room Lunch Buffet Closed – March 2020

NEWS: HORIZONS Garden Room Available for Events
Weekday lunch buffet will not resume

Saginaw, Mich., Feb. 10, 2022 – HORIZONS Conference Center has announced that it will not resume weekday lunch buffets in its Garden Room. The luncheons ended in March 2020, following statewide shutdown orders that required HORIZONS to cancel or postpone hundreds of events. HORIZONS began hosting events again in June of last year.

“I know our customers are disappointed that we will not be bringing back the Garden Room luncheons,” said Pete Shaheen, president of HORIZONS. “Our regular customers were like family, and the Garden Room was a community gathering space. After much consideration, we have decided that it’s time to let the community know this aspect of our operation is not coming back in the foreseeable future. The good news is, the Garden Room is available for special events – it’s a great space for private luncheons, cocktail parties, showers, meetings, receptions and bereavement luncheons.”

According to Shaheen, the weekday lunch buffets began in 1997, largely because of the exceptional HORIZONS chefs and hospitality staff who were looking for full-time employment.

“Our lunch buffets gained quite a following over the years – with many favorites like Glen’s famous fried chicken and ribs, fresh whitefish and other choice menu items,” said Shaheen. “The Garden Room name is a nod to our history. It’s located approximately where the garden department was in the former K-Mart that was transformed into HORIZONS Conference Center.”

Shaheen added that HORIZONS is capturing memories from the past 25 years as part of an anniversary celebration that began last June and will continue through this fall. Those wishing to share fond memories of the Garden Room or of events they attended at HORIZONS over the years are encouraged to send an email to [email protected] or share on Facebook and tag @HORIZONSofGLBR.

“I’m sure people realize the past two years have been incredibly challenging for the hospitality industry – and it’s an understatement to say this has been a unique period in our own history here at HORIZONS,” Shaheen said.

He added that in 2021, HORIZONS provided more than 15,000 square feet of flexible event space for vaccination clinics conducted by Covenant HealthCare. The clinics were held at HORIZONS from January through early June as a donation to the community.

“When we began HORIZONS in 1996, my father never would have imagined hosting vaccination clinics here, but I think Doc would be proud of the role we’ve played in serving our community. We continue to be grateful to the community for their support through these exceptionally challenging times. Our team is very happy to be hosting special events again and we are booking now and into the future, both at our facility and catering off-site functions. Our event coordinators are putting their talents to work planning memorable experiences and our entire team is doing what we’ve done for more than 25 years – practicing the Art of Hospitality and exceeding our clients’ expectations.”

The Garden Room is perfect for bridal showers, anniversary celebrations, cocktail parties and other special events.
